Who runs this

This is an independent guide to writing a speech. It decides on its own what it records. Write to hello@howtowriteagoodspeech.com for any privacy question or request.

The draft check

The ten boxes and your score are worked out by code inside your own browser tab. What you tick is never sent anywhere and is gone when you close the page. The check never asks for the text of your speech.

What gets counted

We never ask your name. To learn which parts of the page help, the site counts a page view, the page that sent you here, how far you scrolled, whether the question near the top came into view and which app link you pressed. Each count includes your browser language, operating system, screen and window size, time zone, two simple browser checks that help us spot automated visits, and a random ID kept in your browser. Your IP address is used for a rough location and is not stored in full.

Who handles the counts

This site's own server forwards the counts to an analytics provider that keeps them in the European Union. They are used only to improve this page. They are not sold or shared with advertisers.

What your browser stores

No cookies. The site stores the random ID and a session marker. If you block the counting script, every part of the page still works.

Where the app links go

Each app link points to /draft-aloud on this site. That address looks only at your browser's user agent: Android devices go on to the Confidently listing on Google Play, with the link's place on the page added as a referrer, and every other device goes on to the App Store. This step logs nothing. Once you are in the store, Apple's or Google's terms and the app's own privacy policy apply.

Deleting your data

Email us to have the counts linked to your random ID removed. Clearing this site's storage in your browser also breaks that link at once, since we never know who you are.
